El pasado 13 de Diciembre se cumplieron 20 años de la muerte de un grande, me refiero al señor Chuck Schuldiner, su partida dejo un vacío enorme en la escena del metal en general pero sobre todo en el Death Metal pero más que eso, nos dejo un legado maravilloso dentro de la música y hoy estaremos comentando 4 de sus trabajos.
DEATH y su discografía perfecta amerita esto y más, la única banda de la cual hablar de todos sus trabajos es un verdadero placer, cabe mencionar que Chuck escribió y compuso todas sus canciones, música y letra.
Chuck, descansa en paz, mente maestra.
En 1987 el 25 de Mayo sale SCREAM BLOODY GORE con 10 canciones, 37 minutos de duración y una obra maestra, un clásico dentro del Death Metal.
Chuck se encargo de la guitarra, voz y bajo, mientras que en la batería estaba Chris Reifert.
Portada hermosa, temática de horror, zombies y sufrimiento humano, velocidad, poder y energía. La voz de Chuck y su ingenio era algo maravilloso, plasmo en su álbum toda esa fuerza carnívora y un gutural muy especial, por que transmitía dolor y todo ese sufrimiento que producían los horrores de la humanidad y no solo eso, cada canción tiene un sello propio, a pesar de ser gutural, la interpretación de Chuck en cada canción te daba una sensación diferente, era algo increíble, que nadie sabía como representarlo hasta que en un futuro se denomino DEATH METAL.
Para muchos, este es el primer álbum del Death Metal, puede que no lo sea, es un tema muy debatible si pensamos en el "Seven Churches" de POSSESSED, pero Chuck le dio al Death Metal una esencia y sabor diferentes, de ahí el apodo de "padrino" del Death Metal.
Llegando el 12 de Agosto de 1988 sale a la luz el glorioso LEPROSY con una duración de 38 minutos y una lista de 8 canciones.
La alineación que presento Chuck en este trabajo fue él en voz, bajo y guitarra, Rick Rozz en la segunda guitarra y Bill Andrews en la batería.
En éste trabajo, resalta muchísimo la batería cruda y machacante, poderosa, devastadora.
El arte es una obra que va al punto, al grano, a lo que va el trabajo.
LEPROSY muestra la evolución de Chuck como compositor, haciendo ver a la lepra como una enfermedad horrible pero también se expresa de manera "poética" y grabando varias frases en nuestra memoria, la frustración y el sufrimiento de sentir como tu cuerpo se deteriora.
El sonido es glorioso, todos los elementos están perfectamente colocados, los miembros van en un ritmo perfecto para que te adentres en toda esa aura brutal que presentaba el Death Metal en aquellos años (lo cual era novedoso) las letras eran crudas, directas, fuertes y la música que lo acompañaba era aplastante y devastadora. La obra LEPROSY fue y seguirá siendo un trabajo crudo y realista que sigue vigente incluso en estos años.
SPIRITUAL HEALING nace el 16 de febrero de 1990 regalándonos 8 canciones que dan la duración de 43 minutos.
En este trabajo se nota un cambio muy importante, ya que Death no solo hace música machacante y brutal, en este trabajo ya se nota una progresión (aún no tocaban Death Progresivo) un cambio para hacer la música un poco mas cerebral y melódica.
La portada es de las más especiales y llena de detalles.
Chuck en la guitarra y voz, James Murphy en la segunda guitarra, el señor Terry Butler se integra en el bajo y Bill Andrews de nuevo en la batería.
Algo muy característico y especial de este trabajo son los impresionantes "duelos" de guitarra entre Chuck y James, son una delicia a lo largo del material, le dan ese toque único y un dueto trabajado perfectamente.
Gracias a Terry y Bill encontramos una armonía perfecta que presentan un Death vieja escuela pero comenzando a integrar elementos más progresivos y con pasajes más melódicos pero sin perder la brutalidad, el trabajo es glorioso y un paso gigantesco para lo que se avecinaba.
El maravilloso HUMAN sale el 22 de Octubre del año 1991 y aquí Death muestra su evolución con gran madures y crean un trabajo que fue la evolución de todo un género, el siguiente paso dentro de lo que era el Death Metal.
Con una duración de 34 minutos y 8 canciones, nos muestran lo que para muchos es la obra perfecta y más importante de Death.
La portada y el nombre muestran todo el interés que tenía Chuck por los secretos y misterios que rodeaban al ser humano.
Chuck en guitarra y voz, pero aquí se integran 3 miembros que se convirtieron en leyenda, Paul Masvidal en la segunda guitarra, Steve DiGiorgio en el bajo y Sean Reinert (d.e.p.) en la batería, músicos que empezaban, jóvenes que ahora son leyenda, crearon junto a Chuck una obra maestra.
El trabajo es denso, poderoso, un Chuck mucho más maduro y consiente del arte que estaba plasmando.
Causó gran impacto en todo lo que es el ambiente musical, incluso fuera del género, HUMAN es tan grande e importante que marco la pauta para toda la evolución de lo que sería el Death Metal y el metal en general en los próximos años ya que abarca toda la técnica, velocidad, progresivo, cavernoso, brutalidad extrema pero a la vez un metal sumamente melódico, algo que solamente podían lograr músicos impresionantes.
HUMAN logró dar todo un salto técnico, logró marcar un antes y un después dentro del Death Metal.
